I am very proud to announce that today marks the 103rd anniversary of Catholic Charities USA.
Officially founded in 1910 on the campus of Catholic University of America, our great organization was created to promote the diocesan Catholic charities bureaus both individually and as a whole.
Historically we trace our history back to the Ursuline sisters, who founded the first official Catholic charity in the US when they came to New Orleans in 1727. However, it is important to recognize our official founding, and the 400 delegates representing many charitable institutions who came from 24 states unified in their concern for the poor and downtrodden.
We celebrate this momentous occasion, and thank those who came before us and those who work beside us today for all of the work that has been done in the last 103 years.
